Salary: $18.00/hour, with pay dates bi-weekly, every other Friday.

JOB DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Custodian handles the janitorial duties and responsibilities and performs basic maintenance for the church. The Custodian ensures that all publicly accessible areas of the church are clean and ready for other staff members, the congregation, and the community facility users. The frequency of responsibilities listed in the job description varies by usage of the facility. This position works closely with the Church Secretary and the Pastor. The immediate supervisor of the Custodian is the Pastor.
• Responsible for cleaning (sweep, mop, scrub, dust, and/or vacuum) all buildings and facilities, including the sanctuary (narthex, bathrooms, chancel area, hallway behind the chancel area, etc.) and the John Knox Hall (JKH) building (offices, hall, pantry areas, bathrooms, all classrooms, backstage, etc.)
• Responsible for cleaning (sweep, mop, scrub, dust, and/or vacuum) all floors and all surfaces of bathrooms, furniture, walls, equipment, windows, windowsills, and fixtures.
• Responsible for cleaning all walkways and patio areas (upper and lower).
• Responsible for emptying trash containers in the sanctuary, JHK building, outside of buildings, and in the park, washing them as needed.
• Responsible for performing minor maintenance activities such as painting over graffiti, clearing drains (kitchen and outside), filling supplies, etc.
• Responsible for setting up and taking down tables and chairs as directed for activities on the church campus.
• Responsible for washing windows on campus buildings (inside and outside).
• Responsible for making sure the facility is secure (exterior doors, office, classrooms, and gate) when leaving the campus.
• Responsible for notifying office of materials and supplies needed to clean and replenish all bathroom and sink fixtures on campus (toilet paper, toilet seat covers, hand towels, soap, sanitizer, etc.).
• Responsible for notifying Pastor and Property & Finance contact of any facility concerns.
• Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be able to uphold the mission of the church.
• Must have prior custodial or janitorial experience or equivalent, such that dirt and debris are noticed, cleaned, and/or removed from the campus and grounds.
• Possess “pride of ownership” for the church facilities and grounds.
• Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines, often under changing circumstances.
• Flexible and adaptable when unforeseen issues arise.
• Ability to work with church volunteers, as needed, building rapport and accepting direction.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
